Xuanhuan donghua: Chinese fantasy without limits

Xuanhuan (玄幻, "mysterious fantasy") is freer fantasy than xianxia. Its worlds happily mix cultivation, magic, legendary beasts, whole continents and sometimes science fiction. Power systems are invented from scratch, like the heavenly flames of Battle Through the Heavens or the supreme bones of Perfect World.

It is the genre of the most outsized sagas, where heroes often end up facing gods. Chen Dong's Perfect World and Shrouding the Heavens are its peaks; Against the Gods and Tales of Demons and Gods bet on revenge and rebirth.
