完美世界
Perfect World
A primordial world at the edge of chaos, between legendary beasts and fallen gods
Synopsis
Shi Hao is born in an isolated village, far from the great powers vying for control of a world shaped by primordial forces and legendary creatures. Marked since childhood by cryptic visions, he sets out on a quest for power that will take him from remote lands to the highest peaks of the cultivation world.
Adapted from Chen Dong's novel (also the author of Warlock of the Magus World and Against the Gods), Perfect World unfolds a dense universe blending divine beasts, ancestral clans and remnants of forgotten eras, in a deliberately grand, cosmic aesthetic.
Airing on Tencent Video since 2021, the series has become one of the pillars of the xianxia/xuanhuan catalog, with several hundred cumulative episodes and a particularly loyal fanbase.
World
The story unfolds in an archaic world crossed by temporal rifts and remnants of earlier ages, where human clans, ancestral beasts and relics of vanished civilizations coexist. Great powers clash there for control of lands saturated with primordial energy.
Power system
Cultivation here relies on absorbing primordial energies and mastering ancestral techniques, often tied to legendary beasts or relics, within a particularly long and demanding progression system faithful to the original novel's epic tone.
Reception & popularity
With more than 2.6 billion cumulative views since 2021, Perfect World has established itself as one of the most profitable adaptations in Chen Dong's catalog, alongside Warlock of the Magus World and Against the Gods.
My take
Perfect World opens in an unusual way: a baby in a remote village of a primitive world. The start is slow, but it lays down a mythology of rare scale, typical of Chen Dong.
Once Shi Hao leaves his village, the series strings together epic arcs, ancestral creatures and large-scale battles. It is very long, but its power climb is one of the most satisfying in the genre.
Who is it for?Watch it if you are patient — even more so if you plan to follow up with Shrouding the Heavens, set in the same universe.

Trivia
- Chen Dong, the original novel's author, is one of the most prolific and popular writers of the xianxia/xuanhuan genre in China.
- The series has accumulated several hundred episodes since 2021, making it one of the longest-running adaptations in the Tencent Penguin Pictures catalog.
- The Chinese title, 完美世界 ("perfect world"), is deliberately ironic given the brutality of the world depicted in the series.
