Wuxia donghua: martial arts and chivalry

Wuxia (武侠, "martial heroes") is the genre of wandering swordsmen, martial arts schools and revenge spanning generations. Unlike xianxia, no one becomes immortal: the heroes remain human, however gifted, and the story is often rooted in a real era.

Donghua has given wuxia some of its finest visual achievements. Qin's Moon, launched in 2007, blends historical epic with the great schools of thought; Blades of the Guardians follows an escort through the deserts of the late Sui; Fog Hill of Five Elements dazzles with its ink-style animation.
