Created in 2015 by Enlight Pictures, Coloroom (彩条屋影业) is the animation label behind Ne Zha, Ne Zha 2 and Jiang Ziya. Its strategy: invest in young studios and their creators.
History
On 25 October 2015, Enlight announced the creation of Coloroom Pictures, its animation label. Enlight had already invested in October Animation, Tian Xiaopeng's studio, before the release of Monkey King: Hero Is Back.
Coloroom took stakes in many small studios, including Coco Cartoon, Jiaozi's studio in Chengdu. That bet gave rise to Ne Zha (2019), a huge hit, then Jiang Ziya (2020).
The two films laid the foundations of a shared universe based on the Investiture of the Gods. In 2025, Ne Zha 2 became the highest-grossing animated film in world cinema history.
Signature
Coloroom works like an incubator: it gives creators a lot of freedom on long projects and bets on revisited Chinese myths. Its films share ambitious visuals and heroes rebelling against their fate.
