魔道祖师
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
The Yiling Patriarch's return, between investigation and redemption
Synopsis
Thirteen years after his death, the notorious Wei Wuxian, an infamous demonic cultivator known as the Yiling Patriarch, returns to life in a young nobleman's body. He reunites with Lan Wangji, heir of a powerful cultivation sect, and together they unravel a string of mysteries tied to his own past.
Adapted from Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's novel, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation alternates supernatural mysteries, flashbacks and a central relationship that became emblematic of the danmei genre, carried by a pace blending mystery, humor and drama.
Beyond the donghua, the franchise made its mark internationally through its manhua and, above all, its live-action adaptation, The Untamed (陈情令), which reached well beyond China's borders.
donghua.labels.world
The cultivation world is structured around great rival sects — GusuLan, YunmengJiang, LanlingJin, or QishanWen — each with its own techniques, moral code and political ambitions. Tensions between these clans shape the plot as much as the heroes' personal choices.
donghua.labels.powers
Orthodox cultivation draws on spiritual energy through talismans, swords and techniques passed down by the sects. Wei Wuxian follows a different, controversial path, demonic cultivation, which manipulates the resentful energy (怨气) left by the dead — more powerful, but morally ambiguous in the eyes of the cultivation world.
