MXTX publishes her novels on Jinjiang (晋江文学城), the big online literature platform written and read mostly by women, specialising in danmei, romances between men.

In the mid-2010s she wrote three novels that became phenomena: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (人渣反派自救系统), Mo Dao Zu Shi (魔道祖师) and Heaven Official's Blessing (天官赐福). A fourth, Si Shen Mei You Xiu Xi Ri (死神没有休息日), has been announced.

Her novels have been adapted into donghua, manhua, audio dramas and TV series, including The Untamed (2019), based on Mo Dao Zu Shi, which became a worldwide phenomenon. Official translations have appeared in many languages.

MXTX keeps a very low profile: she does not appear in public and talks to her readers through her Weibo account, whose avatar is a simple drawing. Neither her real name nor her date of birth is known. Her motto, shown on her Jinjiang page: "Everyone judges people and writing in their own way; if fate does not bind us, there is no need to force it; if it does, we will meet again."

MXTX mixes xianxia, mystery, humour and romance with great structural skill. Her stories alternate past and present, reveal their secrets bit by bit, and give as much weight to supporting characters as to the main couple. Her often absurd humour contrasts with passages of great darkness.
