The "homebody pig" turned grand master

Zhai Zhu (宅猪), "the homebody pig", has been writing on Qidian since 2008. His novel Tales of Herding Gods is part of the National Library of China's permanent collection.

Career

Zhai Zhu began publishing in 2008. He made his name with Di Zun (帝尊) and Ren Dao Zhi Zun (人道至尊), before becoming a "platinum" Qidian author.

Tales of Herding Gods (牧神记) tells the story of Qin Mu, a baby found by a river by the infirm elders of Canlao village, who pass all their knowledge on to him. The novel won the most popular male-oriented online novel award at the third Chinese-language original novel awards and is among the hundred online novels permanently held by the National Library of China.

He continued with Lin Yuan Xing (临渊行) and Ze Ri Fei Sheng (择日飞升), and ranked in the top 50 of the 2020 online writers index.

Style and themes

Zhai Zhu likes highly constructed worlds where cultivation becomes a science and the world's history a mystery to piece together. His heroes are clever and kind, surrounded by eccentric mentors, and his stories mix humour, adventure and big questions about the world's order.
