The authors and creators of donghua
The young all-rounder of xianxia comedyBorn in 1996 in Wenzhou, Jin Lei, known as Kuxuan, was only twenty when he began The Daily Life of the Immortal King. He is also a lyricist, screenwriter and director.
Career
Kuxuan published his first novel, Wo Zai Yi Jie Cha Ge Yan (我在异界插个眼), in September 2015. On 30 March 2017 he launched Xian Wang De Richang Shenghuo (仙王的日常生活), the story of Wang Ling, a cultivation genius who just wants a normal high-school life.
He followed with Xiu Zhen Jie Wei Yi Jin Li (修真界唯一锦鲤, 2018), Fei Tu Xiu Zhen De Richang (废土修真的日常, 2019) and Wang Ling De Richang Shenghuo (王令的日常生活, 2022).
A member of the Shanghai, Guangdong and Wenzhou online writers associations, he has broadened his work to songwriting, screenwriting and directing.
Life and behind the scenes
Kuxuan belongs to the generation born with the internet: active on Weibo and Bilibili, he presents himself as a writer, lyricist, screenwriter and director all at once. His path resembles his hero's: a very gifted young man looking for his own balance.
Style and themes
Kuxuan subverts xianxia codes with deadpan humour: his hero is too powerful and spends his time hiding it. His novels are as much high-school sitcom as cultivation story, with a gallery of endearing supporting characters.
