The authors and creators of donghua

He is the hairdresser-assassin

Born in 1987, He Weifeng, known as He Xiaofeng, is the creator of Scissor Seven and founder of Xiaofeng Pictures. He also voices the hero, Wu Liuqi.

Career

An animation graduate of the digital department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, He Xiaofeng got noticed in 2010 with his graduation film, Xiao Pang Niu (小胖妞), the simple story of a little girl ready to do anything for love, made in 3D on a modest budget.

Soon after graduating, he founded his own studio in Guangzhou, Xiaofeng Pictures (小疯映画, Sharefun Movie Studio).

In 2018 he launched Scissor Seven (刺客伍六七), which he writes, directs and voices. The series, later streamed on Netflix, has five seasons and moves from absurd comedy to a big action saga.

Style and themes

He Xiaofeng mixes absurd humour, southern Chinese culture and stylised action. His short episodes, full of pop-culture references, can tip into emotion and spectacular fights. He likes naive, generous heroes.

Donghua Fan's take

He Xiaofeng pulled off what few creators dare: making you laugh and cry in the same series. Scissor Seven is like him, both zany and sincere.
