Synopsis
Xia Ling is an ordinary student who receives strange messages from a stranger. One evening she gets lost and wanders into Rakshasa Street, a place haunted by spirits where she is nearly devoured.
She is saved by Cao Yanbing, the street's guardian, and his brother Cao Xuanliang. She then learns that she is a spirit host herself, able to summon a guardian spirit, and is drawn into the conflicts of the spirit world.
The series adapts Xu Chen's manhua, published on U17 from 2010 to 2025. The donghua has had four seasons since 2016, first produced by U17 and then by Bilibili, and a fifth is announced for December 2026.

The Zhenhun streets are intermediate zones between the world of the living and the spirit realm. Each is guarded by a general tasked with containing malevolent spirits. Only spirit hosts, those with a guardian spirit, can enter.
Power system
Spirit hosts summon guardian spirits, often heroes of Chinese history such as generals of the Three Kingdoms era. They can fight alongside them or merge with them to multiply their strength.

My take
Rakshasa Street has an irresistible concept: summoning heroes of Chinese history as guardian spirits. The fights between spirits are spectacular, and the world of the Zhenhun streets is rich and original.
The seasons vary in length and quality, and the story assumes some knowledge of the Three Kingdoms to appreciate fully. But the latest seasons, produced by Bilibili, are the most accomplished.
Who is it for?Worth watching if you like summoning battles, reimagined historical heroes and urban fantasy worlds, like The Outcast.
