Martial Peak — Pikapi's manhua on Tencent Animation
At a glanceover 3,000 chapters
The Martial Peak manhua is drawn by studio Pikapi (噼咔噼) and published on Tencent Animation (腾讯动漫) since 22 December 2017. With more than 3,000 chapters, it is one of the longest manhua ever published.
Origins and publication
The manhua adapts Mo Mo's novel directly. Released at the brisk pace of online platforms, it quickly outgrew the other adaptations, and it is the reason Martial Peak became known outside China.
How it differs from the donghua
The manhua follows the novel closely, condensing its long descriptive passages. It is far ahead of the donghua, which only adapts the beginning of the story. Its full-colour, vertical-scroll style favours action and bold expressions.
Reception and success
The manhua has been a huge success with readers worldwide. It is often cited as one of the most popular titles in the genre, but also as the very example of a never-ending series.
Trivia
- The manhua started seven years before the donghua.
- It now has more than 3,000 chapters.
My take
The best way to discover Martial Peak if you do not read Chinese. The art is effective and it reads fast, even if the quality varies over thousands of chapters.
Who is it for?For fans of the donghua who want to know what comes next, and for readers who enjoy long cultivation sagas.
— Spidermas, for Donghua Fan
