Ling Cage
The last humans, sheltering in a flying fortress above a lost world
Synopsis
In the near future, an anomaly of the Moon triggers decades of geological upheaval. A new ecosystem, the Mana, covers the Earth and turns humans into prey. The survivors take refuge aboard the Lighthouse, a vast fortress that flies above the ruins.
On board, society is strictly ranked: an elite rules, numbered labourers keep it running, and emotions are frowned upon. The Hunters, led by Marc, go down to the surface to gather resources, until the day they discover that humans still live on the ground.
Ling Cage is an original work by studio Yihua Kaitian, directed by Dong Xiangbo for Bilibili. The first season came out in several parts from 2019 to 2021, and the second in 2025.

World
The Earth's surface now belongs to the Mana, an ecosystem of hostile creatures and plants. The Lighthouse, a flying fortress, shelters the last "civilised" humans, while on the ground communities scrape by, such as Longgu village, led by Bai Yuekui.
Power system
Ling Cage is science fiction, with no cultivation. Humans fight with weapons, vehicles and advanced technology. Contact with the Mana can, however, transform some of them and give them extraordinary abilities.
Reception & popularity
Ling Cage left its mark on Chinese animation with film-like visual ambition. The first season passed 400 million views on Bilibili with a 9.6 rating, and the second was even better received. The first season's script did divide viewers, though.
My take
Ling Cage is one of the most visually impressive Chinese series. Its post-apocalyptic world of flying fortress, castes and Mana creatures is original and well built.
The first season is unevenly paced, with an ending that disappointed part of the audience, but the second fixes many flaws. It is a dark, violent, adult series, very different from cultivation donghua.
Who is it for?Worth watching if you like post-apocalyptic science fiction, Attack on Titan-style worlds and series that favour atmosphere over martial arts.
