Dragon Prince Yuan — Tian Can Tu Dou's novel
At a glance1,497 chapters · completed

Dragon Prince Yuan is the fifth major novel by Tian Can Tu Dou, the author of Battle Through the Heavens. It was published online from 14 September 2017 to 30 January 2021 and runs to 1,497 chapters.
Origins and publication
The novel first appeared on Zongheng, then on Qidian. Tian Can Tu Dou returns to his fallen-hero formula, with a crown prince instead of a young clan master. It was later printed in volumes by Changjiang Publishing, with 17 volumes out by 2020.
How it differs from the donghua
The novel takes more time to set up the politics of the Great Zhou dynasty and its cultivation techniques. The donghua tightens the early arcs and puts more emphasis on the relationship between Zhou Yuan and Yaoyao, and on the fights.
Reception and success
The novel was one of Tian Can Tu Dou's big hits in the late 2010s. Fans often see it as more mature than his early novels, with a more thoughtful hero.
Trivia
- The Chinese title, Yuan Zun, roughly means "Sovereign of the Origin".
- The novel was published simultaneously on two rival platforms.
My take
A good Tian Can Tu Dou novel, more polished than his early work, even if it stays true to his formula. The most complete way to follow Zhou Yuan's story to the end.
