Swallowed Star — the films Xue Luo Da Lu and Jue Zhan Yuan Shi Xing
At a glance2 films
Like Renegade Immortal, Swallowed Star has moved to feature length. A first film, Xue Luo Da Lu (血洛大陆, "the Xue Luo continent"), was released on Tencent Video on 7 December 2024. It was followed on 1 May 2026 by Jue Zhan Yuan Shi Xing (决战原始星, "decisive battle on the primordial star"), centred on one of the key places in Luo Feng's adventure. A third, Jie Shou Wei Ji (界兽危机), has already been announced.
Production and behind the scenes
The project is part of Tencent's strategy of turning its most popular 3D series into events, with special films released between seasons. Sparkly Key, which has produced the donghua since 2020, keeps control of the animation. The Hangzhou studio already has cinema experience with the 2014 Qin's Moon film.
How it differs from the donghua
The film is not a recap of the series: it adapts a specific arc of the novel with a bigger budget than the episodes. The long format allows large-scale battles with ships and armies, where the series often has to focus on duels. It is aimed first at viewers who already follow the donghua.
Reception and success
Fans of the series, one of the oldest in Tencent's 3D catalogue, welcomed the films, which deliver the big battles the episodes struggle to show. Their release pattern, one film between seasons, confirms that Swallowed Star is among the franchises the platform is betting on for the long term, alongside Renegade Immortal and Perfect World.
Trivia
- Sparkly Key, which animates the films, is also the historic studio behind Qin's Moon.
- The title Jue Zhan Yuan Shi Xing means "decisive battle on the primordial star".
- The Swallowed Star donghua has aired on Tencent Video since 29 November 2020.
- A third film, Jie Shou Wei Ji ("the realm beast crisis"), has been announced without a date.
My take
Films are the ideal format for Swallowed Star: the space battles the series has always struggled to show finally get room to breathe. My only regret: as with other films of this kind, you need to know the series to really enjoy them, and they do not tell a standalone story.
Who is it for?Donghua fans who want the novel's great cosmic battles with bigger resources.
