The power levels of Soul Land
In Soul Land, a spirit master's power is measured in levels, from 1 to 100. Every ten levels, they must absorb a new spirit ring, taken from a spirit beast, to break through to the next tier. Each band of ten levels comes with a title.
The ranks, from weakest to strongest
- 1Spirit Scholar魂士hún shì
Levels 1–10
The starting rank, right after the martial soul awakens around age six. At level 10, the scholar must obtain a first spirit ring to continue.
- 2Spirit Master魂师hún shī
Levels 11–20
With a first ring, the fighter becomes a true spirit master and gains their first spirit ability.
- 3Great Spirit Master大魂师dà hún shī
Levels 21–30
Two spirit rings. This is the level of good students at spirit master academies.
- 4Spirit Elder魂尊hún zūn
Levels 31–40
Three rings. A spirit elder is already a recognised fighter in most towns.
- 5Spirit Ancestor魂宗hún zōng
Levels 41–50
Four rings. From this rank on, a spirit master can teach or hold an important post in a sect.
- 6Spirit King魂王hún wáng
Levels 51–60
Five rings. Spirit kings form the elite of the great sects and imperial armies.
- 7Spirit Emperor魂帝hún dì
Levels 61–70
Six rings. A spirit emperor can change the outcome of a battle single-handedly.
- 8Spirit Sage魂圣hún shèng
Levels 71–80
Seven rings. At this stage, many spirit masters can merge with their martial soul and take on its form.
- 9Spirit Douluo魂斗罗hún dòu luó
Levels 81–90
Eight rings. Spirit Douluo are among the most feared fighters on the continent.
- 10Titled Douluo封号斗罗fēng hào dòu luó
Levels 91–99
Nine rings and an honorary title, such as Sword Douluo (剑斗罗) or Bone Douluo (骨斗罗). Beyond level 95 they are called Super Douluo, and level 99 marks the limit of a mortal.
- 11God神shén
Levels 100
Level 100 can only be reached by inheriting a god's position after divine trials. It is Tang San's destiny.
The colours of the spirit rings
The age of the spirit beast a ring comes from sets its colour and its power. An older ring gives a stronger ability, but the body must be able to withstand it.
- 10 years · white十年
- 100 years · yellow百年
- 1,000 years · purple千年
- 10,000 years · black万年
- 100,000 years · red十万年
How to advance
A spirit master advances by meditating to increase their soul power, but hits a wall every ten levels until they absorb a new ring. Choosing the right ring is a matter of strategy: too old, and it can kill whoever absorbs it. Spirit bones, which are rarer, grant extra abilities.
