Shrouding the Heavens — the film Bei Guan Zhan Wang Teng
At a glance90 minutes
Released on 4 April 2026 on Tencent Video, Bei Guan Zhan Wang Teng (遮天剧场版 背棺战王腾) is the franchise's first animated feature. In 90 minutes it stages one of the novel's most anticipated duels: Ye Fan against Wang Teng.
Production and behind the scenes
The title translates as "carrying the coffin, fighting Wang Teng". It refers to a striking image from the novel, Ye Fan facing his rival with a coffin on his back. The film is produced by the donghua team, Xingyue Chenshi, with Tencent. It is part of the platform's strategy of giving its most popular 3D series event films between seasons, as with Renegade Immortal and Swallowed Star.
How it differs from the donghua
The film is not a recap: it adapts a specific arc of the novel with more resources than the weekly episodes. Fights are designed as set pieces, with grander staging. It is aimed first at viewers who follow the series, as it assumes you know Ye Fan and his rivals.
Reception and success
The film marks Shrouding the Heavens' entry into the circle of donghua popular enough to justify a feature. Fans welcomed it as a reward, Wang Teng being one of the novel's most memorable rivals.
Trivia

My take
This film is a real gift for fans: the duel with Wang Teng is one of the moments I was most looking forward to, and the long format gives it the scope it deserves. But you need to have followed the series to enjoy it. Like other films of this kind, it is a deluxe special episode rather than a standalone work.
Who is it for?Viewers already following the donghua who were waiting for the big showdown with Wang Teng.
